I wish to change a car battery without affecting the cars memory, with everything switched off there is little power being used. Would a 240ac. to 12v dc transformer with a rating of 2.5 amp be sufficient or am I barking up wrong trees.

I'm no expert in such things...but you can buy a "car battery memory saver" (Amazon or Ebay) designed to avoid problems associated with disconnecting a battery. There are different types...do some research first, to avoid damaging the electrics.

Yes it should be ok..just confirm the 12v output and polarity before connecting. As suggested you could use a memory saver that connects to the OBD11 socket.  Make sure that the replacement battery is of the same rating as the original or you may need to re programme the charge module.

Beware batteries. It was only recently that I discovered poorly designed cars, with the obligatory start/stop infuriation, require special batteries at a ridiculously higher price. So you pay to allow them to annoy the hell out of you.

Also while your temp supply might avoid issues, a change of battery can result in a ludicrous dance of ridiculous actions before the "smart" car computer allows you to start the car again. Clearly a deliberate attempt to put you off changing them yourself and having to pay a garage to do it.

If you have stop/start you will need an AGM battery...dont be conned into an inferior EFB battery
