I have taken a screenshot of a photo which has been emailed to me on my laptop. When I open it downloads the  downloaded  photo has a surround around it. I have tried snipping tool and saved it to clipboard. No matter how I try I cannot transfer photo from clipboard to gallery. Any help would be gratefully welcomed.

why did you take a screen shot? Just download the actual photo from the email.

Right click on the image and "save to"  .. this pc, file explorer etc. Whatever option your system offers. Save to pictures rather than documents or downloads.

Thank you for your replies. When I click on photo in email I get 2 options, preview or download.  Which ever option I choose it sends it to downloads, and picture has a surround around it with picture in middle. I have tried to send it to gallery, photos or just documents and it will not allow.

Save the edited version anywhere. Then afterwards use a file explorer to find it and copy it to the directory of your choice.

ok, open it with paint then use the snipping tool to cut the picture out and save as a new jpg file.

Look for the images from the Snipping Tool in the screenshots folder. \Pictures\Screenshots

Thank you all for your help in resolving my problem. They say you are never too old to learn.  I normally have to rely on my great granddaughter, but she is in the middle of her GCSE'S.
