My dad keeps getting red alerts appearing on his computer screen from macafee saying there are viruses on computer. When he tries to ignore or clock the cross in corner it seems as though it is loading something. Does anyone know what he should do? He has tried shutting down but it was still there when he restarted.

When they kept bothering me I believe it was some way of getting you to buy their security. How it gets onto your computer in the first place???? If I remember correctly I just went into programs a selected uninstall.

has he actually got a Mcafee programme of some sort on his computer>?
I found Macafee to be nothing but a pain in the rear years ago, it was always popping up. I just got rid of them altogether.
i often get emails saying my mcafee account needs updating which is puzzling since i don't have a mcafee account?
I signed up with them a few years back then they took £79.99 from me on auto-renewal. I contacted them and they refunded me.

Anyway, I keep getting pop ups on my PC too but luckily I can just click on x or whatever the options are and close them.

I should have said -no he does not have macafee for anything. He has virus protection from a different company. He has not opened an email to trigger this either. Just suddenly started yesterday and now he cannot get rid of the constant messages. He has run a full scan which says no viruses found.
Just had a (spam) email from Mcafee - never had it/never dealt with them before. Seems like they are on the offensive!
Same as Sandra @ 12:41.

The problem with Macafee is they often 'piggy back' on other downloads and unless you are careful it gets loaded. Some PC's used to have it preinstalled too, although I dont know if thats still the case.

As for the OP, you dont say whether McAfee is the virus software being used or its something thats 'just appeared'.

If it is the software installed dont ignore it. Load some other anti virus such as Avast (free) disconnect from your network and see if that finds anything. If it does then get it to remove or quarantine the problem.

If McAffe is not your virus software what is?
