Without warning the mouse curser and keyboard are useless, and any movement on the screen freezes, all I can do is reboot, then the cycle repeats. This happens at least every 15 minutes or so. The PC has an 'on board' graphics chip, (Radion R7), rather than a card, and I presume this is the cause of the problem.
Having this chip in place, can I install a graphics card, as well? will I have to change something in the BIOS? The rest of the PC works perfectly, but currently its practically unusable!

As well as blocked vents or a dodgy fan, failed thermal bonding between he processor and its heat sink can cause such a problem. It most commonly occurs with laptops, after they've taken a knock or two, but it can also happen with desktop machines too.

Could it be overheating?

I considered that Hopkirk, but is didn't do it all through last summer, when the temperature was a lot higher than now, so I sort of discounted it.
Before even reading Hopkirk's suggestion my mind had also turned to overheating. Blocked vents or a failed fan might be the cause of the problem. (My friend had a similar problem many years ago. When I went to her flat to investigate the problem, I discovered that she'd placed a bar towel on top of her desktop PC, so that she could put her coffee mug on it. Not realising the importance of keeping a PC's processor cool, she'd allowed the towel to hang down at the back of unit, thus obstructing its vents. Removing the bar towel fixed the problem for her!)
