now given a new least of life ( they arent all mad) thro long covid

some of the tropical viruses - chikungunya - very debilitating arthritis in 20% I think
and .... Lyme disease.

"Latent viral infections in humans include herpes simplex, varicella zoster, Epstein-Barr, human cytomegalovirus, adenovirus, and Kaposi's sarcoma."

HIV is another latent virus, as is Ebola:

Although malaria is a parasitic infection, rather than a viral one, some people who've had malaria once can then experience symptoms periodically for the rest of their lives. (Back in my schooldays in the 1960s, my friend's father periodically suffered from malaria, having first contracted the disease while serving in the Middle East in WWII):

My ex bridge partner had these type of symptoms and was treated for a number of different things over the years (including being doubted for psychosomatic chronic fatigue syndrome) - none of which worked or some even caused worse problems.
She was eventually diagnosed with a problem with her pituitary gland. She had an operation (removal? dunno) which is very delicate because of the nearness to the optic nerves. She seemed better afterwards.
