When I get a message and I don’t open it straight away, it keeps sending me notifications until I open it which is annoying, how can I stop this please?

In settings you can alter the frequency of the reminders far all types, missed call, text message, WhatsApp etc.

Settings/Notifications/Advanced settings.
Turn off Notification reminders.
