Advice Please

Just received a phone call on my mobile but didn't recognise the number so didn't answer.
Then they sent a text message saying please phone me when you get this message.
That's never happened before, (asking me to message back) so I don't know what to do.
Would it be ok if I message them to ask them who they are?
Any advice please?

Was it a mobile or landline number? You can do a Google search of numbers and if it's a scam it may come up...legit will also.

No its a scam, you will be directed to a premium number and put on hold, you could lose hundreds of pounds. It was on rip off Britain a few weeks ago. One old lady got a £300 phone bill!

It's a mobile beginning 0730577 which says it's Operators: China Telecom.
Won't be texting them back!

We had a call like this which we ignored. Over the next few days we kept getting calls both on our cellphone and our landline, which we ignored. Eventually we answered and an American voice told us that there had been suspicious activity on our Tesco credit card - we ignored it. They persisted and, eventually, we rang Tesco helpline, using the number on our card, and we were told it was indeed a suspicious debit; the original answering voice was American because it's American software that monitors the cards. It seems that someone had tried to spend £350 in a surf-shop and, knowing we're pensioners, thought it might be a scam; they were right. Had we said it was a real transaction they would have allowed it. As it was they said they were immediately cancelling the card and sending us new ones after checking the last few transactions to make sure that genuine ones weren't cancelled.
I suggest that you Google the number which called you and, if there is any chance it could be genuine, check it further CAREFULLY.

The only thing I can think it could be, although it's never happened before, I am waiting for a couple of Christmas T-shirts that I ordered from Groupon and they are overdue.
It's possible they are coming from China, so I could get in touch with Groupon to see if that's what it is.
Perhaps they might be telling me why there is a delay.
I'm not going to phone that number though.

Barsel, would the retailer in China have your mobile number? Would they not send you an email? maybe check your spam for any emails from an unknown retailer?

I agree with everyone else, if you haven't chosen to give someone your mobile number, ignore it.
They will leave an answerphone message, if genuine.

Now you have discovered who sent it I feel it's a good idea if we need to text someone to contact us urgently that we leave a clue as to who we are.
