Check that you've got Windows set up to use a British keyboard:

Open the search tool. (Bottom left - it looks like a magnifying glass).

Type in 'lang' and then click on 'Language settings' (up at the top of the panel).

Check that 'Keyboard' has 'English (United Kingdom)' underneath it. If it hasn't (and you don't know how to fix it) report back here and we'll try to provide instructions for you.

If 'English (United Kingdom)' is already shown there though, it might well suggest that there's a physical fault with your keyboard.

when i press the at key what i get is is the dot below the at button
thank u
that's odd, have an apostrophe beneath mine.

have you tried shift and 2?
Once again, follow the instructions in my first two paragraphs above, then . . .

. . . under 'Preferred languages', click on 'Add a language'.

In the box that appears at the top of the panel, type 'English'.

Scroll down to 'English (United Kingdom)' and click on it.

Click on 'Next', then on 'Install'.

Wait for the word 'Downloading', near the foot of your screen, to disappear. (It could take several minutes, during which time nothing much will seem to happen. Don't panic, just give it time!).

Then use your mouse to drag 'English (United Kingdom)' up above 'English (USA)', so that it's first in the list.

The entry beneath 'Keyboard' should then read 'English (United Kingdom)' and your keyboard should then function exactly as its meant to.
