It's a perfectly good camera but it all depends on what your son wants it for. Compact cameras are easier to carry around, so you're more likely to have it with you, but they're not as flexible as SLRs. You need to know the likely usage before you can recommend something.

This is his choice. He wants it as a graduation present :-)

He loves walking so he's always out and about.
If that's the one he's asked for, I'd guess he's done his own research, so it would be fine.

By the way, will you be my mummy? :-)
No she’s my mummy get your own!
By the way excellent camera good resale prices if he discovers that he wants to upgrade later

Lol....my OH has only agreed to pay half as he lives rent free and scoffs all our food.

He has a full time job!!
EOS are good cameras and 18 - 55 is a versatile focal length. He can then treat himself to a zoom to go with it at some point.
Lol indeed & congratulations to him on his graduation :-)
I agree it's an excellent camera if he wants DSLR rather than a point and shoot compact. Aimed more at those who want to be serious and learn about photography, fstops, speed etc although it will have auto function. They are a bit more cumbersome to carry around and extra lenses for long distance and close up work are expensive. I think it's a great present (I have a Canon DSLR).

Really proud. He's going to study law next. He's costing us a fortune :-)
Check out Park Cameras for price. I've been dealing with them for 20 years or more and their prices are always good, customer service is excellent and their part-exchange prices are generous too.

I've bought it now. I will pass on your recommendation; he'll really appreciate it.

Thank you all

Camera has arrived. I've never seen him so happy since we got him a cat.

He's going to pay for the extras.

Thanks all....and from a very happy young man x
I've has EOS's for many years, both film and digital. Good range of lenses (and not just made by Canon) and a quality camera.

I've gave him a mission. I want him to take a picture of a bee on a flower.
