davebro -SharonA- thanks i`ll shove it in a cupboard
How invasive is the smart meter i dont want one but the energy company keeps sending me emails and texts about it
I used to get regular phone calls about them which I totally ignored and let them go to answerphone, they stopped during lockdown, but now sadly, they are staring up again. I still ignore them !
You can also do what I do and plug it ina socket out of sight (at the back of a kitchen cupboard) so you wont have to submit readings and can still look at it if ever you want to
If left plugged in, the pennies still mount up and add to the bill.

If I want to look I can see my usage on line but I haven't altered how I use my gas/electric. Life's too short!
A colleague’s parents recently had a smart meter installed – soon after they noticed that their electricity bill had increased significantly. My colleague made enquiries as to why this should be and was advised that his parents supply company places all new smart meter installs on their most expensive tariff unless the customer requests otherwise.

Quite why anyone would want a smart meter installed is beyond me – ask yourself, do you want to give your electrical supply company the ability to switch off your supply at the touch of a button?

If your smart meter goes wrong and your electricity supply fails as a result, do you think the company will compensate you for the spoilt food in you fridge/freezer or other inconvenience due to loss of supply; or for that matter rush round and sort things out – if you think your supply company will do all that, then go ahead and have one installed.
NOOOOOOO. Don’t do it...you’ll regret it when it fails and they overestimate your usage. Too late she cried.
Your meter installation should have nothing whatever to do with your tariff.

Our usage and bills have gone down since we had one, although I’m absolutely certain it’s nothing to do with the meter.
The fuss about these things never ceases to amaze me. Imagine if smart meters were the default and it was announced that they were to be replaced by people wanting access to your home to take a reading.
There’d be uproar …

What a complete load of ***!
the *** is a synonym for testicles
With a smart meter installed, the supply company has the ability to remotely disconnect your supply.

Anyone who says that their supply company will do all that (see above) – is talking testicles.

Thank you for all replies , i only had it installed for 2 hours before i was checking it to see how much i`d used so now it`s unplugged in a cupboard where it`ll stay out of sight
my meres on the house wall are actually behind the neighbours locked gate so a smart meter is far less bother for reading.
I see the Luddites are out in full force.

you're lucky dave, i haven't been able to access my british gas online account for over a year. I've given up telling them about the problem

I've never really understood how a smart meter works - luddite! Could anyone please explain, in simple terms, exactly what it does.
