I recieved a text on my mobile last night and I don't recognise the number.
It said, 'thought I would make your day a text not from (in here was a name I have in my address book)'. I text the person named using his phone number, not the one supplied. He said he had no knowledge of the number and it wasn't from him.
So, other than ringing the message number, which I'm loath to do, is there any way I can find who sent this message?
Tia.

You can Google the phone number, if different from your friend's.
If you don't recognise it I would delete it.

Thanks pixie, I have done that but I keep getting sites that find the number but want me to purchase something before they will reveal all.
I'll have to dig a little deeper.
Question Author
I was thinking about deleting it danny, but I think I'll leave it there for now to see if the same number tries again.
Question Author
Oh also, how can this number name someone in my address book do you think?
Was it a guess? If they just mentioned a fairly common name, then maybe. When I have googled before, (like for a client a couple of days ago), I got "insurance scam number" and "suspicious number" quite obviously. So, if it isn't known, I would just delete and avoid.
Delete it & forget it. Don't puzzle over the whys & wherefores.
Question Author
No it's not a common name. I have now deleted it.
Thanks all.
I had a strange email once from someone with the same surname as me and the same first name as my little dog. They were sympathising with me over the loss of my dear Mum several years earlier !! I never got to the bottom of it as I didn't want to click on to the email to reply. but they said they knew my Mum when they were little. I've NEVER heard of her and neither had my brother. Luckily that was the only time she sent me an email.

That's not nice burlyshirley.
Like you I never reply if I don't recognise who the communication is from.
Am receiving emails of offers while I stay in the bridal suite of Archipelago International Hotel Group, including Bob the Butler free service. Google shows the hotel in Indonesia & am in UK lockdown - too old to be a bride but Bob the butler sounds promising ;)
I hope he's silver service standard Tambo.

My rule of thumb is 'if in doubt,do nowt' they'll contact you the proper way if it's legit.
Ive had 3emails so far & deleted them.
That's the best way ImLost, if in doubt, do nowt !!
