Hello.
I had an ultrasound scan on my heart two weeks ago at the local hospital.
I have not had any results back.
I'm a bit puzzled.
Will they eventually write to me?

Perhaps no news is good news, Theland. :-)
Possibly not.

I had an ultrasound on my kidneys and only got to learn what it was showing because I asked the nurse about it at the time. I never had any form of written (or verbal) report afterwards.

If I was you, Theland, I'd work on the principle that "No news is good news!" ;-)
Phone the GP.
Ridiculous having investigations and not knowing the results.
If you’re curious (which I would be, it’s my body after all) then I think I’d ring my GP and see if he’s heard from them, and if he hasn’t then maybe he’d follow it up for you.
At mine, we have to ring GP ourselves for any results- but they will contact if urgent, or will change meds. Try your GP tomorrow, or online, or however they are working now- and hopefully put your mind at rest. Best wishes x

Cheers. I did ask at the time, but they couldn't tell me.
Said results would be sent to the doctor who requested the scan.

Will ring my GP tomorrow. Thank you all.
That sounds normal. Ask GP when you can.
I've only been informed if something is wrong.
The results will go back to the requesting Clinician. They will not routinely contact you with the results unless there is something untoward or, if there is no need for further investigations and routine review, the May write to you as a courtesy saying that everything is fine and they are not planning to see you again.

Otherwise, if they are planning to review you in an Outpatient Clinic, they will discuss the findings of the investigation with you then.

Oh and the scan probably wouldn't be reported on for a couple of weeks at least. In some cases, due to unprecedented backlogs, scans are being outsourced for reporting.
Is it the same with blood tests? I haven't heard anything since I had one last week.
Took 12 weeks to get the results of mine ...
I used to be the same as ummmm but in recent years I get copied in to all the reports sent to my GP. I think that's how it should be, though perhaps patients should be allowed to opt out.
(having said that, last week I got one that was allegedly put in the mail in April. The consultation itself was in February, and it took me a while to remember what it was about.)

agree sqad
access to medical records act 1993 - yes thirty years ago allowed pts to access their records
now data protection act

last time a clerk unwisely told me "I dont know what you are talking about" the chief exec got an email reminding him of current legislation and his duties

if it is a hosp appt ask the doctor in the clinic
GP - then ask the reception ist - you have to wade froo da " dat above my pay grade bit"
Was it done by the hospital staff themselves, or a company they outsource to? I've had a few scans done by outsourced companies and they tend to come back with results very quickly, including an echo I had last summer.

Does your GP surgery have a test results option when you phone them, or something like that? Mine has one where you can check if test results have been received and, if so, whether or not a GP wants to speak to you about them.
