Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact running Android 10.
I'm using the pre-installed music app to play mp3 files and have approx 6 GB of songs on my phone.
I've recently bought a 128 GB memory card and have put approx 70 GB of music on it, so I thought I'd check to see if it would work okay on my phone. Turned phone off, inserted memory card, etc and everything went okay .... all songs, albums, artists showed up and played okay.
However, now I've removed the memory card, they still all appear in my music list, although they can't be played, cos they're not actually there.
I've tried clearing cache and storage but this didn't do anything. It's no big deal, but it's kinda annoying as I now have a huge list of songs, most of which won't play and i just want to revert back to my original list of approx 6 GB of songs stored on my phone.
Any tips please??

*sigh*

.... I was hoping someone on here might have the answer :(

I've even asked on the Sony website ..... no answers as of yet ....
Why did you remove them?
Question Author
//// Why did you remove them? ////

I didn't remove the songs.
The songs are on a memory card which I put in the phone to see if my phone would read and play them all. The memory card belongs in another device (separate mp3 player) and when I removed the memory card, all the songs are still in my phone's library, except they won't play, 'cos they're not actually there.
Did you just take the memory card out of the phone before telling the phone to "Eject" or "Remove" the card?

If you did - pop the card back in and go to your phones memory card settings and force the phone to "Eject" the memory card before you physically remove the card.
It's got to be worth a go.
Only a guess but I think titles and tracks have been transferred to your phones internal memory, so you will need to delete them from phones memory.
Ah, ok, that wasn’t apparent in your OP. Have you done a soft reset?

I powered the phone down and made sure it was off before I removed the card.

I've noted other people have had the same issue, but no one has found any solution.

That's my guess as well .... but no matter how much I look, I can't find the relevant folders to delete :(
No help from Sony?

I posted on the community help page - no replies yet :(
Nothing on their support pages?
Switching the phone off and removing the memory card is totally different from ejecting or unmounting the card whilst it's still powered on.

If you just switch the phone off - the phones' memory will remember the songs on the card and will look for them when you switch the phone back on again - but won't actually find or play the songs if it can't find the original source on the phones' memory card which you have removed.

But if you force "Eject" or “Unmount” the card - you are telling the phone that you want to remove the card and the information stored on the card if that makes sense.

I’m out of ideas but I hope you find a solution soon.
Good luck.

I reinserted the card and let everything load back up, then played a few songs to make sure that the card had been fully read.
Then I went to storage and ejected the card, powered down, removed the card, powered back up .... waited ..... and it's still the same aaaarrggghhhh :(
