Flashing Red Light On Adapter

I have been using a satellite receiver for the past couple of years. When the device was plugged in a constant red light used to come on the ac/dc adapter. Over a period of weeks the receiver took longer and longer to boot up. Now the receiver never boots up but the red light on the adapter blinks constantly immediately when the receiver is plugged in. Anyone got an idea how the receiver can be checked to trace the problem?

Have you tried resetting the router?
It sounds like it could be a problem with the adapter. You could try measuring the voltage output from it if you have a meter but that doesn't prove that it's capable of supplying the required current. Trying a different adapter is the best option if you have one lying around with the right connector and voltage output available.

I have tried a similar adapter from another similar receiver, both of which work but not on the problematic one. It is therefore a problem with the receiver, not the adapter.
