How safe is it to download W10 To a Dell 1720 that's running Vista?
It's a computer that our late friend used, I have taken it back to factory setting however I can not get rid of the old version of IE which pops up saying this page can not be found despite the tool bar as showing it's connected to my WiFi.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank in advance

I would have some serious doubts as to whether a Vista machine could run 10. Check the windows 10 compatibility tool on the Microsoft website to be sure.

It's only going as a spare C@C but I thought I'd try downloading W10 but now having major doubts , thanks for your reply
I think I am correct to say that the 1720 is a 32 bit machine, in which case it will not run on any 64 bit operating system.
Good thing there is a 32 bit W10 but I don't think it would be a good idea with such an old machine. Think about Linux, if you wanted to you could keep Vista and have it as a dual boot pc
I guess with its age your Dell is "walking" Vista, rather than running it. If you do manage to get it to work with W10 you might need to buy it a walking stick.

Thanks people, it was a a step too far me thinks
Your Dell 1720 uses an Intel Pentium T2370 processor, which was classed as a 'Merom' processor. (Source: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/34445/intel-pentium-processor-t2370-1m-cache-1-73-ghz-533-mhz-fsb.html )

Merom processors can't support the drivers for Windows 10, either as a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. (Source: https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/support/articles/000006105/processors.html )

So, although you might be able to load Windows 10 onto the machine, it would continue to try to use older drivers and probably run at a crawl.

I recently made the mistake of putting Windows 10 onto an old laptop, which resulted in me having a machine where the video driver simply couldn't handle streaming content (e.g. from Youtube or BBC News) without constant stuttering. I tried every trick I know to resolve the problem but I still ended up buying another laptop!
You could have installed Linux, Buenchico. That plays Youtube and other videos and it is free :|
