When uploading photos to Google Drive, is there any way to keep the original time and date of the photos?

I've noticed that when I've uploaded them, the time and date is changed to the time and date of upload, rather than the information of the original.

Where are you uploading the images from? Some applications strip the EXIF data from images, so that it's not available for Google Drive to refer to.

I was sharing via the album on my Xperia phone.
So maybe if I'd uploaded directly from the file manager it would work correctly.
Thanks Buen I'll try that. Pity I've already done 5 months worth of photos.
Saving images to Google Photos, rather than to 'Gallery' (or whatever your phone calls its own local folder) is likely to solve the problem.
