The plan I am on with BT is very expensive to ring from my landline to a mobile

I have just rung today 2 mobiles

5.08 minutes cost 0.78

7.49 minutes cost 0.98

now if I want to talk to a friend on her mobile it would be expensive because we could talk for an hour or so - I am missing this friend.

I do have a 02 payg mobile phone - would that be cheaper. I recall a thing mentioned

Bolt On or Bolt off - don't understand.

Can anybody advise. Thanks

would it be cheaper for her to ring you?
Do you have wifi & smart phone?
Whether your O2 mobile is the cheapest way to do it depends upon whether or not you're using 'bundles' (of calls, texts and possibly data).

If you've got any type of 'bundle' linked to your 02 PAYG phone, all calls to 01, 02, 03 and 07 numbers are included. If you're not using data (as you would, for example, if you browsed the web with a smartphone) you can buy a 'calls and texts' bundle for just £5 per month. (You actually have to top up with a minimum payment of £10 but the excess payment is carried forward).

However if you're only using what I call 'raw' credit (i.e. without using any type of bundle), you'll get clobbered for a massive 35p per minute to call your friend's mobile.

So without a 'bundle', a one hour call to your friend's mobile every day for a month will cost you a whopping £630 but with a 'calls and texts' bundle it'll cost you just A FIVER (with free calls and texts to all other 01, 02, 03 and 07 numbers during that month too!)

So if you're not already using a 'bundle' it's definiely time to get one!!!

PAYG allows Wattsapp download where calls are free via wifi
Question Author
Chris - are you saying that if I order the "bundle" - it would only cost me £5 a month for saying calling my friend for an hour or so,

sorry for these questions

If it was to happen like could I talk to my friend for many hours like 2 hours - is that still £5 a month.
why r u ignoring me jj

/////You actually have to top up with a minimum payment of £10 but the excess payment is carried forward).///

just took this in (understood) - I never would need to pay £10 a month - cos I don't use the mobile phone much

like I still have £15 on the mobile and that's from last September 2019 so definitely wouldn't use the £10. That's down the pan

Tambo - I don't have apps,

I'm snookered either way, landline or mobile.
:(
A fiver a month, using a 'calls and texts' bundle lets you call who you like, and for as long as you like, without any extra charges at all as long as the numbers you call are standard UK landliness or UK-based mobile phones.
download Wattsapp

thanks all - think I'll go for that £5 a month deal - that sounds good.
There might be a different plan with BT that includes calls to mobiles.
Question Author
there is Hopkirk and I went for "that" plan - however I lost out on the anytime phone calls - so had to go back to the original plan which is much cheaper altho not for mobiles
If you do as Tambo suggested you can download whatsapp on your PAYG phone. Your texts, phone calls and photos are free at any time. You can do face time type calling as well.
Perhaps switch provider. BT are expensive.
>>> If you do as Tambo suggested you can download whatsapp on your PAYG phone

My understanding is that Jennyjoan only has a basic PAYG phone. i.e. it's NOT a smartphone (and therefore it can't have any apps installed to it).
I know you say you don't want a SmartPhone, JJ, but you really should consider it. I can't remember the last time I made an actual phone call. People call me very occasionally, but I use apps like WhatsApp, Zoom, Skype etc for all of that sort of thing. In fact, just skimming through my phone history, I don't believe I've actually phoned anybody since 2018.
