My sister left me her ipad, amongst other things, after she died a year ago, and although I used it occasionally at the time, I've now completely forgotten the pin code to access it, and have tried so many options I'm completely locked out now. Any ideas how to get into it please?

Have you tried your late sister’s birth year?
Its locked out now MWG.
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. The only way to unlock an iPad with a passcode, other than entering the passcode, is to "restore" it to its original factory settings.
And how do you do that, Zacs?
Not entirely sure if you can’t get into it. I’d probably use google or another search engine to find out.
Woodstock, has the iPad ever been connected to your pc via iTunes?
you will need access to a computer to do it and you will lose all the data https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204306
if you do a restore, after it's finished restoring, it's going to ask for id and password, the id being an email address that was used to set it up and a password, if you have them, your good to go, if you do not..its paperweight, as the serial number of it when restoring or updating firmware gets sent to apple servers..and that serial number is secured to that..id and password..
