My ipad is getting old and takes a long time to recharge the battery. Is there any reason why I shouldn't use it continually plugged in?

No reason why should not keep it continually plugged in if you like, I often have mine plugged in for most of the day.

Sometimes when a tablet takes a long time to charge it is because the charger cable needs replacemen. This was advice I got from AB and it worked for my OH's android tablet. Have not tried it on my IPad, but for a minimal cost it may be worth trying.
