Hi, My ASUS Eee pc, netbook, running W7 starter, has started to boot up in Safe mode with window stating 'cannot connect to System Notification Service. I have tried the following 'fixes' to no avail,
1, Window+R key, services.msc> Enter, r/click sys notification service > properties, change to 'automatic' >apply>ok.restart
2,Windows+R key cmd in run box Press Shift,Ctrl & Enter together. Type netsh winsock reset >Enter, Restart.
Any advice much appreciated, i'm not really a techie !!
Could this be something to do with Windows no longer supporting W7?
Should I alter to' disabled in properties in fix one or click 'stop the service'

The second method you've tried looks the right one to me, except that you should be using it with a command prompt 'run as administrator', which I don't think Windows+R will achieve.

Try this way:

Click the Start button.

Type cmd into the box.

You'll see 'cmd' appear again, in the results panel above the search box. RIGHT-click on that entry and select 'Run as administrator'.

If you see a User Account Control box asking you to allow changes to your computer, click on Yes.

Type netsh winsock reset

Press Enter.

Restart.

Hi Chris (?), thanks for reply, I have run the 'fix' as you've stated,-twice,- but still get the same message and the light coloured start box and task bar, as in 'safe' mode. The pc is working ok but is a little slower than usual.
Once again thanks for your help.

just an update, I don't know why but I tried right clicking on Windows Update, 'run as administrator' clicked yes in notification box and after update box said all up to date I did a restart, seems to have cleared the problem.
Thanks for the info. I'm glad you got there in the end!
