Any ideas why ABP has suddenly stopped fully working on my Hotmail (large banner down right-hand side), but OK everywhere else?

I don't use Hotmail. (Indeed, I wouldn't touch it with an infinite number of the proverbial bargepoles).

However you need to remember that ABP doesn't block any content whch is actually part of the page that you're visiting. Instead it looks for content that's being called from those third-party sites which are on ABP's database of known advertising sources.

So, if Hotmail includes an advert as part of its own content (rather than 'pulling' the ad from another server), ABP won't be able to tell the ad apart from the content that you actually want to view.

Further, if Hotmail accepts ads from a remote server that's not yet on ABP's blacklist, those ads won't get blocked until ABP's database is updated to include that server.

Thanks for that - thought it must be to do with it being 'embedded' in the page. It's bearable, but it's odd that it's only just started.

I know what you mean about Hotmail, Chris (and that you like gmx), but I've been using it for 20 years with the same address, and I can't be doing with the faff of changing it - I have loads of people in my Contacts, and lots stored in various Folders.

The ad seems to have replaced the 'ad-free' option they used to offer.

ABP is still working though, as the counter shows. :-)
