I have a portable hard drive on which I have stored various documents etc from my old XP computer, is it possible to plug this hard drive into my new Windows 10 laptop?

I don't see why not. Whether your new machine can read the documents depends on the file format. You may have to download new software on to the W10 machine.

Try it - nothing will blow up
any operating system will pickup new drive
