Urged to update after a very long session I was left without Wifi. I've now heard of 3 others who have had problems.
In case it's helpful, *very much in my own-non-technical words* W10 includes Classic Shell and it was this that deprived me of the Wifi connection. Apparently, W10 does not 'support ' CS but fortunately my guru found a Users? CS site so he was able to delete the W10 version and install an updated one - and it worked.

I ran the update & it apparently erased all my bookmarks & deleted some files. After spending ages resetting them & after logging off & on a couple more times they all mysteriously re-appeared as before.

Shambles!
TOOK AGES !
I still am using windows 7 the best program before the silly versions.
have you a name to these updates?
Very occasionally an update doesn’t complete properly first time for whatever reason which is what usually causes a problem.
It needs a couple of “goes”
thanks mamya, i downloaded that one without any apparent problems
Good, there may be something else rumbling around but I can find no mention of it.
Totally agree with Tony at 08.29. Wish I'd stuck with 7.
i get all twitchy on the second wednesday of the month and it's all thanks to microsoft 10 updates ...

I have just two words on this subject " regular backups" - I`d strongly advise using a utility such as drivereasy so if a driver goes missing it will reinstall it for you - there is a free version.
Hereiam think you can still download windows 7 but Microsoft are not providing any support.
No problems here updating a desktop, surface pro, and an 8 year old HP laptop. Also installed the new Edge Beta browser on all 3 with no problems. I think that a lot of the problems go right back to when people upgraded old systems to 10. There was an option after it was done to do as "clean" install which I did on both the lappie and desktop before organising my settings and bookmarks/favourites and tool and task bars. The Surface pro of course came with 10 installed and is a wizard little bit of kit. Fingers crossed.
urged to update ?? i've no choice, it does it automatically on 10,
or do you mean update "to" 10 from another windows version you don't make that clear
i'm guessing that Coppit is talking about an 'optional update'
Tony, I'll have to ask our 'go to guy' for techie stuff (my brother). I am certainly NOT a fan of 10 ..
W7 runs out next January though it will get updates till then.

A shame, as it works fine.
Windows 7 is brilliant even without updates. I shall stick with it as long as my ancient laptop works.
The specific end of support day for Windows 7 will be January 14, 2020. Not long.
