Hi peeps, hope someone can help, went and bought a mem stick from china and it came the other day, now it was sold as a 2tb and it shows up as 1.9tb in its properties, my mate says that its a fake as it should have cost a lot of money for one that size and it only cost a few quid, so what I would like to know is, is there a program or a command prompt to tell me the correct size of my mem stick, thanks in advance for any replies/help

Can't know for sure until it corrupts your valuable data, but be suspicious. I got caught like that from a China seller once, and eBay took the seller's side, because they have no morals.
I used to have a USB thumbdrive check programme but can't recall where it is now. Try a websearch for a free one.
And as O G points out be wary of entrusting valuable data before checking it out. It could be a dud.

hi peeps ty so much for your replies, pauln90 hi yes i am aware that there is a difference between advertised size and actual size i was just wondering weather it is a 2tb mem stick or a fake one of say 64gb and old geezer i will be trying some of those web sites/tools tomorrow ty for that
Think there is a bit in memory stick that keeps all of messages around 10%
Should be fairly easy to test whether it's really close to to 64GB than 2tb- just try to copy a load of stuff from another drive.
If your computer reads it as 1.9tb I'm not sure it could be fooled to that extent
Just plug it in and search that drive will tell you size.
Just for the record, your PC can be fooled into thinking a USB stick is larger than it is, so simply plugging it in and seeing what capacity it says it is, is not necessarily the truth. I don't know how they do it, but these fake USB sticks trick your PC, so a 4 GB stick for example, might show up as 32 GB on your PC.
I've tried that programme in OG's link (H2testw) quite a while ago and this is probably one of the few ways to safely determine the true capacity of your USB stick.
If I remember correctly though, it does take quite a while, so be prepared to leave it running for a while.
How much did you pay for it? I've had a brief look and these size USB Drives start at about £800. I never touch cheapo imports!
