This morning, I thought that I had inadvertently posted my account details along with a link to a BBC article. I was signed in at the time, with my name appearing at the top.
I was assured by Jno that I had not posted a link to my account and I thanked her for that.

Could someone clarify this for me. If I was using my 'account open Amazon website' and posted a link to an item on there, would my account details not be seen by a person clicking on the link?

Is it possible to mistakenly link to one's accounts by doing something daft? If so, what?

Generally speaking, doing as you did earlier or with Amazon products for example is fine.

When I click on a BBC or Amazon link, it shows it as my page.

I imagine there are times you should be cautious and someone will know.
I have occasionally seen people link to photo-hosting sites that have their names visible, so I suppose it depends on the site.
I did that once, posted a pic and it opened into a whole album, thankfully they were all mundane photos.
That's because you posted a link to your pic with 'share' enabled, not the site.
It is usually impossible for a website to open with your details when you post a link

Thank you both. That has made me feel a bit better.

Mamya, I didn't realise that part about when you open it it's your page.

Thank you, HC.

I have never posted a link from my Yahoo news page, for example. I thought it would show all my details to the world and his wife.
Big gulp - I'm trying it now

I am signed in to the Yahoo site, by the way
I think its more of an issue with sites where you have photo albums. Quite a few years ago I remember a girl on (not me) here who wanted to post a pic and ended up posting a link to her album with some photos in it that were not appropriate for a family site and which she had NOT intended to share.

Yes, it's opened as mine. :-)

Thank you for the reassurance, all of you. Very kind.
That's the whole idea of photo sharing sites - you can share your photos just be posting a link. :)

I remember that happening, woofgang, although I expect it has happened more than once
normally its just pictures of plants and people's gardens......
