Hello,

I have an Hp laptop running Windows 10 and have just bought an Hp Envy 5032 wireless printer. I have downloaded the driver but it tells me it is not installed. When I try to connect the laptop is asking for a WPS Pin number but I cannot see this anywhere on the printer or in the manual. When I try to Google I am told this shouldn't be necessary but everything I try on the laptop to get it to connect this pop up keeps appearing.
On the printer settings in the HP app it says connection type network and under status says active but says Not installed under installation status
Any advice or suggestions please?

You need to make sure that firstly the printer is connecting to your hub. I think that printer has a wps button that will connect automatically. First press the wps button on the router and within 30 seconds the wps button on the printer. Then in settings check that your laptop is now recognising the new printer and that the new printer is the designated choice of printer( in devices) It may be still looking for your old printer.
Another tip your laptop will recognise the printer and the scanner from the 5032 as two separate devices and again you need to opt for printer to print and switch to scanner if you intend to scan a document.
The wps pin number will perhaps be the security key on you router usually a long (13 perhaps) set of upper and lower case letters, and numbers.
There’s an option in the ‘tools’ section of linking to your Broadband.
I know what you say Geezer. If I lived in a tower block or heavily populated area or one that had public access with cover very close I would have concerns. Fortunately where I live any "unusual" vehicles are soon spotted and virtually no pedestrians that do not dwell close by.
>>> I have downloaded the driver but it tells me it is not installed

Er, probably a silly question but have you actually run the installation application which you downloaded? (I've known people to download the file from the internet and not realise that you need to double-click on that file to get the driver to install).

Thank you all so far but nothing is working. I have pressed the WPS button on the router but can not see one on the printer.
I have tried installing via every method definitely following the set up instruictions on 123.hp.com and it gets so far through then says failed to install over the network. There is a wi-fi direct password on the printer wifi settings I have tried this as the WPS pin number and it didn't work. There is also a printer code and I have tried this without success as well. The printer is defintely compatible with Windows 10 this is the first thing I checked. I have also printed from the tools menu on the prionter the Hp Network configuration page which is three pages long and everything on here says connected. It is incredibly frustrating. Is this something I am doing wrong or a fault with the printer?
Ruggief, daft question but after doing the set ups and saving them on the pc and printer, have you tried switching both off and rebooting? Daft I know, but could possibly crack it for you.

Hi,

I have yes, I have done this as it advised to, to complete set up but on restarting the printer does not show under devices. When I try to search for devices it finds the Wi fi direct printer (not the HP envy oddly) and when I try to connect it asks for the WPS pin number. I am so frustrated, don't know whether problem is with me or if the device is faulty.
Also even more oddly my it says it is mobile friendly so my daughter tried on her iPhone 6s by downloading the HP app and this is working fine and she can print directly from her phone. Is this significant?

Laptop finds the device fine, the icon has appeared on my desktop, I have receive all the welcome emails from HP. Everything seems ok it spends several minutes installing to network and then just says failed after about 4 minutes.
Well you know that the printer is OK. Does your daughter's phone use the home wi fi when she is there or remain using the mobile networks. If it switches to the router(as mine does) you know that the printer is hooked up to the router so the issue is with the laptop settings. Have you tried again to add printer and let the laptop search for the printer in devices...printers? Have you also checked the box in windows settings that says "Allow windows to choose my default printer". Plus there is a get help with printer in the windows settings under find and manage devices.
Printers can drive us mad Riggief. I have been there. :((
I am sure there is also an option in the windows settings menus, again in devices ….printers for windows to find and install drivers.

Thank you yes, I just got her to try again and it is using the home network not mobile data. I am so frustrated and confused I thought it would be straightforward. Download the driver, connect to wifi and that's it but no. The printer and laptop are both connected to wifi but can't connect to my home network and I can't understand why, or what I can do to fix this.
In which case we have at least narrowed it down to laptop settings or issues I would think then Ruggief. You say that it is still showing your old printer there in devices. How about removing it from your devices and see whether this allows your lappie to hook up? Again is the new printer showing in you "home groupings"?
Gotta go out for now Ruggief. Will check back later and keep my fingers crossed that you crack it or maybe get a poster with a new insight. Nice bit of kit BTW the printer.
