Her indoors bought herself a phone charger .

However it's not like the usual type in shape and construction - it's more like an ordinary shape plug .
I noticed that it was made in china

Are these safe to use ?

You've got a job to buy anything electronic that wasn't made in China nowadays.
I have an "Amazon" charger which look exaclty like a three-pin 13 amp plug, but has a USB port where the cable would emerge from a plug. Works perfectly well and safely. I use it to charge my phone, tablet, camera and e-reader. One thing it will not charge is my MP3 player. I think that needs more juice.
What phone?

NJ - That sounds like the one she has got

She bought it from poundworld - i was just a bit concerned that it being cheap might mean that it is not safe to use .

I noticed that where the end of the metal of the USB cable fits into the socket of the plug - it is not flush i.e you can see a part of the the metal .
If safe and sold here it should have a CE mark ("Conformité Européene" )
For a pound you can expect a nice order of cheap charging along with 2 sides of potentially lethal electric shocks and house fires.

I’d rather buy the official charger and not put myself, family or home in danger over the sake of a few pounds extra so bin it imo.

//After subjecting the chargers to a number of mechanical and safety tests:

• Almost half (23) failed an electric strength test; meaning that there is a severe risk of electric shock when using these chargers.

• Internal examination showed almost half failed basic safety requirements; these chargers contained sub-standard internal components or inadequate spacing, also presenting a serious risk of electrocution or fire for consumers.

• Overall, two in three (68 per cent) of the chargers tested carried a severe risk of electric shock due to lack of insulation and poor quality internal components.

• 15 chargers that passed the electrical tests failed the plug pin strength test. If a pin is not sufficiently strong, there is danger that it could break off inside a mains socket, resulting in a risk of electric shock from an exposed live pin. //

^This also goes for any other cheap adaptors, android chargers and vape chargers as a quick google or venture around YouTube using words //Phone/vape/ electrical/ item explosion, fire, electric shock.
