New laptop. Yesterday when I clicked on a trusted link in an email to go to a website I arrived at the above. Today, clicking on a bookmark to read newspapers, some go to BT, some to the paper as usual
Do I have to install the BT before it will go away?

I would think it's already there, find it and remove it.
You can either accept the option (which is what BT would like you to do to get access to everything that your BT Hub can do) or go into the BT Hub's settings and turn Smart Setup off.

See here:

The BT smart set up is part of your package with BT. It is a set up wizard to help you set up devises to your hub. It can be turned off.

The trouble is that clicking on the link takes me straight to the page I'm complaining about!
(Some of my newspaper bookmarks work normally).
Once you have either set it up, or turned it off and SAVED, you will not keep getting the "message". Must confess, we are with BT and I hate the BT home page and dashboard. We unfortunately have to retain the facility because we do all our "stuff" online. Now we have the BT account in "She who must be obeyed's" name soooo I leave it all on her pc/ laptop accounts. We have 2 mobile phones, printer, desktop, laptop, Surfacebook pro, TV, Music entre and Sky box all on the hub and the set up Wizard can be very useful if the web goes down and all needs reconnecting. You may also find that although you switch it off, it may go back to a default on, after an internet interruption or a system upgrade.
You get it when you've connected a new device to the router.

Just follow through the steps - it will probably ask if you want parental settings turned on - I click no and that ends the message for me.
