Hi all,

My partner and I both have the above phone (don't laugh).

I've looked through the manual, but can't find anywhere on how to disable the speaker when making/receiving a call.

This is extremely annoying, since it disturbs other people around me, and I don't necessarily want anyone to hear what someone is saying to me.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

I want to disable the speaker at the back, not the earpiece at the front.

Using the speaker icon only makes the speaker louder, and using it again returns to the state it was in.

Using the mute button mutes the earpiece as well.
Oh right. Maybe if you’d explained that in your OP......
I don’t think you’ve fully understood the instructions to be honest.
You seem to have got the speaker turned. To disable it (while a call is in progress) simply press the speaker icon, shown here:

NB: As someone who is just getting used to an Alcatel smartphone myself, I know that it's easy to 'long press' an icon instead of just using a short press. I suspect that's what's happening in your case. i.e. don't 'push' the icon but 'prod' it instead.
