I was thinking of buying a pair for sailing trips. At anchor the chain is always banging and keeps me awake at night. Has anyone had any experience using these?

I have these..quite expensive but good..there will be other less expensive on Amazon
I have some Bose ones, which are great for plane engine noise and general background noise. I am not sure how well, or even if, they work for intermittent banging noises.
Similar to mine, Murray.
As per Garaman, noise cancelling headphones don't work for irregular noises, constant drone of engines etc. yes, but not intermittent. You'd be better off with ear plugs
I have got the Bose ones and they are good but not sure they will work for what you want if the anchor chain is banging the hull as the noise will be vibrating through the whole boat. On trains and planes they are brilliant and even mute human noise and crying kids.
In last Saturday's Times Magazine in their Best Cheap Shopping Guide, recommended as 'Best noise-cancelling headphones' are Lindy NC-60 at £59.99. "Up to 85% ambient noise reduction".
