I have a triple playing CD player which hasn't been used in years, I tried to play a CD on it the other day, and it keeps skipping.

Any ideas on what I should do please?

Have you tried putting a cleaning cd through first, AOG?
Fluff on the needle probably... ;-)
Have you tried a different CD in it, just in case the one you're trying is faulty??

gness

I purchased one the other week but they gave me a DVD clearer and it didn't work.

Some have a liquid supplied with them is it best to always use one wetted?
A scratched CD is the most common fault.
DVD cleaner should be the same as a CD cleaner. The only difference is the wavelenght of laser light used and DVD players will play also CDs as they can deaL with both wavelengths.
I have one similar to this, AOG......and I have another for cleaning the cds which has a spray solution....x
CDs usually skip because of small scratches on the surface. (Some CD players are far better at handling scratched CDs than others, so while it might seem that one CD player never skips whereas another one often does, it's still a problem with scratches that really needs to be addressed).

It's probably time to reach for the Brasso (or for a 'whitening' toothpaste, which also works well):

[NB: When cleaning CDs, always use 'in and out' motions and NOT 'round and round' ones]

However, in order to give the CD player the best possible chance of ignoring any minor scratches (which might be almost undetectable to the naked eye), it might be worth trying a lens cleaning disc. They're available cheaply in many 'discount' stores and, of course, online:

Crikey.....had a look online to see if I could fine the one I use, AOG...couldn't, but there appears to be lots of ways of cleaning dirty and scratched cds......including toothpaste!..... :-)
Is the CD one that you created yourself or a commercial one? CDs which you write yourself are created differently from commercial ones and can degenerate with time.
Or chrome cleaner.
Tempted to say take the rope away, but I won't.
Lol Danny
take its rope away ..sorry AOG not helpful
Oh that took me an age to cotton on!...and shouldn't have done...

I phoned my electrician of few words to ask what I should do with a problem electric heater....
Skip......was the short reply.....

How will my skipping fix the problem?.....I asked.......well before the penny dropped..... :-(

Thank you all for your answers, much appreciated.
Welcome and hope it's sorted....x
Try a spot of washing liquid and warm water first. Dry thoroughly. Could be just greasy fingermarks.
