Sending Whatsapp Photos To Spain

My phone provider is charging me supposedly for sending photos via WhatsApp from UK to Spain, I have also telephoned Spain via WhatsApp.... Is this correct? I cannot think what else the charges could be for.

Whatsapp uses the internet rather than your phone provider. Your phone provider may be charging for the internet (data usage) if you were using over your limit via roaming data and not connected to free/home wifi.

If you were NOT on Wi Fi when you sent the photos (outdoors and away form home for example) then WhatsApp will use your normal phone data connection that may incur charges.
