Generally a loose connection inside or hard disk failure. Nothing in the DVD/CD Slot?
Try a cold boot ie, switch off at mains wait 30 seconds and start again
Question Author
the disc drive wont open but the green light is flashing
Does hitting the ESC key during the boot process work to bring up a boot selection screen? Or F9,F10,F11? One of these keys may put you into the RAID menu and boot up options. Sound like hard drive issue.
The flashing light gives hope that the problem might be related to the CD/DVD drive (cheap and easy to fix), rather than to the hard drive (major disaster).

Open the CD/DVD drawer manually by opening up a paper clip and pushing it in the little hole:

If there's a disk in there, remove it. Close the drawer and try to boot the computer again.

If that doesn't work, and you're confident with a screwdriver, open up the PC, unplug the CD/DVD drive and try again.

(I'm assuming that you've not got anything like a memory stick plugged into a USB drive, or a media card inserted into a card reader. If you have, make sure that you remove them before trying to boot the computer)
Unplug everything but the mouse and keyboard if it is a desktop. Unplug everything else on a laptop.

tried all your suggestions, the disc drive is ok now but now has a message which says "reboot and select proper boot device, or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key "
If your confident to check inside for loose connections, do so. Sounds like either loose power connection to Hard Disk or actual failure of the Hard Disk. PC or Laptop?
For some reason your pc is trying to boot from the dvd drive. If you are given the option, select the C drive
Would be nice to know which version of Windows your using?
Unscrew the hard drive cover and check to see if the drive has become disengaged. Push it back into place if it has .I sometimes have to do this on my laptop.Have you tried turning the pc off ,waiting a few minutes and then turning it back on.

think it has given up the ghost !! time for a new one, just have to figure out how to retrieve my photos xx
Don't give up on it yet. Let someone take a look at it first . It might be something easy to fix.
