I plan to get a new laptop when the sales start. Do you think 4gb is big enough ? I shall use it to access internet for shopping, reading, etc. access AB ( of course) that kind of thing. Not for work, as have just retired, storing personal documents on and so on. I read Fender62's article about the hardrives ( didn't know there were 2 different ones !) and think possibly a SDD because of the speed and noise that HDD can make. My old laptop is very noisy as is Mr.Sam's 8 year old Mac. Just wondering about the gb. I am looking at the Lenovo. Any thoughts? I want to store photographs too.

Gosh, no opinions or answers?
newer laptops come with 8 to 16 gb of ram 8 is enough
https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/how-much-ram-do-you-need/
Can't help you, I'm afraid, Sam. Perhaps everyone's having their tea/dinner?
Yes mine. Get one with a hybrid hard drive with 1tb and the best RAM capacity you can afford. Do some research about the graphics card offered and the capacity of the system or motherboard to take new developments. If you are wifi'd up make sure that Bluetooth is already there. You are choosing an investment for the future, choose something that you will learn to love. :))
also get a laptop with at least an i3 intel cpu i5 is better i7 the best
depends on how much you want to spend, as for an ssd drive mmm thats neither here nor there, if you not playing games or using intense programs for graphics like cad.
Why don't you just go to somewhere like PC World after Xmas, and see what they have to offer. You shouldn't have to pay more that £500....probably a lot less. Most laptops come with a very high spec these days.

Difficult to find a PC world here in Spain Mikey. Off to El Corte Ingles I suppose
Just about to post the same Samurai. :)) Does Mr Sam fancy some pure North Wales snow? I have plenty to spare for a Ninja. (^_*)

Thanks Fender. I have taken note and shall sound as if I know what I am talking about when I go to buy. Although I was thinking of a tad lighter and maybe a 13.5 screen. No good for me Davegosling. I am not in the UK. Many thanks everyone, if you think of anything else I should lookout for, please tell.
I keep all my photos on an external drive, I got a 1TB quite reasonably a couple of years ago, they should be cheaper now.
Sorry Sam....I didn't realise that you lived in Spain !

Is there an Spanish equivalent to PC World I hear myself asking ?
I've got a 6 year old Lenovo and it's brilliant. If you're buying in Spain make sure you get an English keyboard as opposed to a Spanish one if you want to do a lot of typing in English.
"No good for me Davegosling. I am not in the UK."

They're entirely on line and will deliver anywhere.

Good advice diddlydoo. Although I write in both languages, my keyboard at the moment on my desktop can be changed from one to the other, so I suppose it will be able to also on a new laptop. I am forever changing the language on my iPAD .
