Delay In Response To Desktop Icons

When calling up a program with the icons on my HP laptop, there is often a delay of anything up to a 30 second delay before the program loads. This seems to be a very long wait especially as I only have very few programs installed on my 4GB machine'
Can anyone suggest a reason for this very long delay, and how it might be possible to cure the problem. Many thanks

It's probably your antivirus program slowing everything down. The most frequent offenders are Windows Defender, Norton and (recently) Kaspersky but AVG has also been known to cause problems.

So which antivirus program are you using?

Hi Buenchico, Thanks for your reply. I too thought it might be cured by running a full Kaspersky scan, but no problems there.
I have recently attempted to optimize my drives. A defrag of my C drive has helped considerably but I still have a problem in optimizing my System Drive. (Please see my subsequent posting.) - Any ideas?

That's not what I said. My theory (based upon reading hundreds of posts on the subject) is that it's Kaspersky itself which is causing the problem. It's notorious for hogging resources and slowing computers down.

Ditch Kaspersky and use Avast instead:

It's far less intrusive.
