You can have 'live' conversations with people and sending pictures is free. It does use your data though.
It's a 'free' way of making calls including video calls and sending text messages. It only works when you have an internet connection. That's why I put free in inverted as it would be part of any internet usage on your plan. I use it all the time, very good for keeping in touch with close family when away from home.
My phone won't let me download it! :-(
I had trouble downloading it Sharon. I just kept trying and one day it worked.
Sharon...it may not support your phone. I had it on a 3 year old samsung, but whatsapp stopped supporting certain older models at the end of the year.
I have a Sony xperia and it is not very old.
You should be able to download WhatsApp from the Google Play Store.
I think it is great.

ok so pru - if i have free Wi Fi connection its free? my mobile is PATG so internet/data usage would cost me.
Can calls be made abroad for free?
what about the 'people being able to see me on it'?

thanks
As long as you have an internet connection and the person you're calling does than yes you can use it abroad (but you will each be using the internet). For example in Antigua this Xmas, there is free wifi where we stayed and I was able to video call my daughter in London all the time. We could see each other and I could wave my phone around and she could see the views that I could see. It's a great app. if you don't want people to see you then you just use it like an ordinary phone call. Press the phone icon rather than the video one.
