I think I have got Gedcom from my Family Tree but have not renewed my subs this time. I thought I would try Ancestry this year and have already signed up. Please wii someone tell me how this is done. I would still like to keep the GR account open in case I want to go back to it, I don't want to get rid of it alttogether.

Buy a cheap older version of FTM from ebay - do the trial which can be up to 6 months - import your gedcom file - extend the membership for as long as you wish - there are different levels of access but they obviously cost more.
Get on to Mackiev Family Tree Maker and go from there. UK membership is about £110, I think, but worldwide membership is about £170. It is the best for family trees.
Most genealogy software can cope with gedcom as it's a standard. Surprised if you can't upload it directly to the Ancestry site and your account. Aside from that try the free genealogy software out there until you settle on whatever you choose to do.
PS there is a genealogy forum under the history one.
