I have notebook running W10 (not an upgrade).

Access to the internet (via my wireless hub) is lost. I have no networks visble when I try to connect to the internet (I usually have half a dozen -my own and the neighbours); when I look at "Network and Internet" WiFi is shown as "Off" and changing it to on makes no difference (it simply reverts to "off" again" when I close the window.

I've looked on help sites and it seems there is a problem like this following an upgrade but my machine had W10 from new.

Any ideas?

TIA

Try reinstalling the wireless driver: Download this file to any convenient location on your hard drive: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeeBook/Drivers_for_Win10/WLAN/WLAN_Qualcomm_Win10_64_VER110010212.zip Double-click on it to run it. Depending upon the zip format it might automatically run the driver installation file or you might be...

Check your wifi card in device manager - make sure it is working properly.

Windows 10 updates have caused a number of problems wifi among them. You may need to update the driver for your wireless adapter

Thanks for the help, hc.

Looked at "Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 Wireless Network Adapter":

"This device is working properly.

When I go to

"Network & Sharing Centre" then

"Set up a new connection" then

"Connect to the Internet"

I get "Windows did not detect any networking hardware"

Using "Troubleshooter" to cure internet connections problems:

"Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem"

Ditto "Troubleshooting Network Adapter"

You could try uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it
Try updating the driver in the device manager first

Thanks, hc. What is it I am updating or uninstalling/reinstalling? Is it the "Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 Wireless Network Adapter" thingy?

Of course the difficulty I have is that if this updating or uninstal/reinstal requires a network connection, I ain't got one !!!!!

When I look at that device the options to Update or Uninstal are greyed out.
Can you connect your notebook to the internet via your smartphone?

I haven't got a smartphone !!!
Oh
Can you connect it by ethernet?
Try resetting the TCP/IP stack:

Press the Windows key and X together.

Click on 'Command Prompt (Admin)'

When the box opens, type this line:
netsh int ip reset
Press Enter.
When you're told that you need to restart your computer, do so.

If that doesn't work, try resetting the winsock. That's exactly the same as above but the line to type in the box is this one:
netsh winsock reset

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your contribution.

No luck with either I'm afraid.

I think a Windows (so-called) update was performed overnight and it seems to have disabled my WiFi "adapter" or whatever it's called. WiFi seems to be disabled and whatever I try I'm unable to enable it. I'm a bit pee'd off because the machine is only about four months old. On my old machine (the one I'm using to make these posts) I disabled Windows updates becauase I've had problems like this before, but I forgot to do the same on the new machine.

Try reinstalling the wireless driver:

Double-click on it to run it. Depending upon the zip format it might automatically run the driver installation file or you might be taken to a new window where you have to again double-click on the (now unzipped) installation file.

Once the file has been run, restart your laptop.

I'm glad that you're thinking straight tonight, Fender62!

I should, of course, have allowed for the fact that NJ can't download the file directly to his laptop! I assume though that he must have access to another computer, otherwise he couldn't have asked his question ;-)

Thanks for your help. (I'll put my own stupidity down to an absence of alcohol tonight!)

Thanks both.

Yes I do have access to another machine. I went out for a Wether Curry last night to relieve the stress :-). I was a little "tired and emotional" when I returned (having also had a pint or three of Abbott/Bish0p's Finger). I'll try your suggestions when I've had my brekky.
How do you connect a laptop to your smart phone? I would like to know as I have a smart phone ,Galaxy 5. It would be usefully to connect via the phone could I use the phone's 'mobile data' to access information on my laptop?
