Not until you start installing afterwards.
Which Windows version are you presently on ?
The deadline was last Friday - according to an article today it will cost £90-150 depending on which version you have.
Oh "charge" not "change". I'd have thought that if it's already downloading you must have got your request in before the deadline ? Unless you entered payment card details, how are they going to charge once downloaded ? Unless they intend to shove the phrase "illegal copy" all over your wallpaper.

You can get a cheap license on Ebay from £10 upwards.

f.a.o c.a.c. I poss know a cheaper way than ebay
It will come as a great shock to me if you are able to fully download and activate Windows 10, which Microsoft ceased as a freebie last Friday. You may get as far as 99% and that's your lot; without an activation key for an up-dated Operating System.

Furthermore, it is very unlikely that you will be able to get a genuine copy of W10 for less than £80/90. Pirated copies will cause all sorts of problems. They'll work for a while and then the problems start, without there being a way back to your present system, which I would think is quite sound for at least a further four years.

I have refrained from 'updating' because I took the view ..'If it aint broke, don't fix it.'

You are obviously quite at liberty to disregard anything which I have said. However, I and possibly other ABers will be very interested to know how you get on with matters.

Yeah knowing Microsofts crap products, where something usually goes wrong somewhere, I find thats probably best way to proceed.
Have 8.1 at the moment which I am not a great fan of either, those irritating bloody tiles never functioned properly from the day I bought comp. But apart from that most things work reasonably well so aint taking the chance of 10 screwing everything up. so 8.1 will do until I buy new comp in future.
The "If it aint broke, don't fix it" advice also best applied to driver updates Used one of these driver update progs, which actually caused some progs not to work properly! so I leave drivers alone now and only update when absolutely necessary

Last Friday's deadline was only for registering for the (so-called) 'upgrade' to Windows 10. Those who registered by that time can still download it now. (Indeed, due to Microsoft's limited server capacity, people who registered at the very last minute might still have to wait several days to download W10 anyway).
I downloaded W10 sometime ago , but not installed it ( despite several prompts to do so )

Will i still be able to install it for free , whenever and if i choose to , at some time in the future ?

i'm still looking for the page i found a week ago saying that i could download w10 any time. same as bazile i must've tried to download w10 countless times without success before the deadline. so chris does this mean i can download w10 whenever i want?
^^^ I think so, Piggynose. I've not bothered with W10 and I got a message telling me that the offered had now expired. So if you're still seeing a message offering the download, it's probably still available to you.
doubt it. they did it to me without permission and i think they did the same to many people and there was some comment about it recently so i think/hope you'll be ok
I am still using Windows 7 on my laptop and it is OK .... Why upgrade.... And why pay?
@Buenchico....I read this morning on an official Microsoft Internet Page that if one had not downloaded and actually installed W10 by Friday 29th July 2016, the end had come for registering and activation of the OS. Unfortunately, as often happens, I am unable now to find the page concerned.

Incidentally, my laptop is loaded with W7 and I have had a message to say that W10 is No longer available to me as a free download.. However, I also have an up-date message which suggests that it is.

The whole matter is highly confusing and is in keeping with Microsoft's Mess-ups.

Thanks for your feedback.

I honestly do Not think that you will regret having failed to install W10.
