Some programmes really get on my wick! This happens especially in 'real life' programmes. In the first section, they go into details, or whatever. They then have an ad break. When the programme returns, they repeat everything they have said in the first part. This goes on throughout the programme, so, in effect, from an hour- long programme, what with ads, and repeat of things already said, you probably end up
With about 35 minutes of information. What do you think?

Yes ... it's for the low attention span audience who are incapable of remembering what happened ten minutes earlier, or viewers who may have just switched on. Or maybe the programme makers just don't have enough material to fill an hour and have to pad it out somehow :-)

That's a good answer aquariel. I can see your point
It's blerdy annoying espcially as you missed the 'after the break highlights'. It even happens on half hour shows such as Four in a Bed and Come Dine With Me, both on C4, which have 5 episodes in a week cycles. By the fourth day there is very little new content.

I think quite a few people flip between channels - and when the programme makers do all this repetition/recapping it makes it quite easy for us to watch several programmes simultaneously.
Totally agree. not only do they show ABC in part one, before the break they say coming up in part two is XYZ. then after the break they say in part one we saw ABC, now we'll show you XYZ then at the end they recap ABC & XYZ. They must think they are broadcasting to a bunch of numpties.
There was one property show that not only told you what had happened earlier but demonstrated it in beautifully done graphics, several times in the hour.

Mark bought the property for £100,000 and he hopes to sell for £250,000. His budget is £40,000 with no contingency fund. If he's on target he will make a grand profit of £110,000. It drove me so potty I had to stop watching it.

Great replies folks. Glad to see that I am not the only pernickety one. I wonder sometimes why I watch some of these programmes.
I agree, you get more going over what happened before and ads than the actual programme.
Has anyone else noticed the talkover while watching flms lately. That drives me potty having a running commentary while you are concentrating on it.
Mitchell and Webb did a brilliant spoof of this annoying concept a few years ago, called The Gift Shop. It's probably available on YouTube. Well worth watching.

Why can't I post YouTube links properly? Easy to find on YouTube anyway, if anyone's interested.
Thanks, Calibax.
Think you need to turn "Audio Description" off, askyourgran.
What talk over, askyourgran? Have you accidentally got audio description turned on?

Hi cloverjo. Thank you for The gift shop sketch. I hadn't seen that before, but it sums up this topic to a T. Brilliant!
