Hi all....The counter (time elapsed) on my VCR is not advancing when I play a tape. The final digit just sort of goes round in a circle instead of moving to the next number...fast forward or back is ok. it's just on playback...any ideas welcome and appreciated.

Also would appreciate advice on what my next recorder should be, looks like I might need one fast......not VCR I guess?.......commoner :-)

I know it sounds silly, but usually when this happens there is nothing recorded on the tape! Next purchase should be a DVD recorder with built-in hard drive. Look at LG (mine, and hard drive can be upgraded later) or Pioneer or Panasonic (may have a card reader in it). Sony get very good reviews but may not have firewire connection for a DV camera!
