Morning chaps, me again, ;-(.
I'd like to scan a document from my printer to my computer with a view to e-mailing it on.
What page should I have open in front of me on my computer.
I've probably got more questions but that sounds a good place to start.
Perhaps, if it's easier, I could stick a USB?memory stick? in the printer & then in the computer.
Any answers just pretend you're talking to an idiot. ie. no technological terms unless unavoidable. Thank-you.

When you installd your printer some software for scanning would have been included. For example on a Canon its called Navigator so you open that and place your original on the glass and click scan on your computer. I've googled but haven't a clue what they're talking about.
When you turn your printer on and have the page in position, press the 'scan' button on the printer.

The printer software on your pc should automatically open and you will see the scanned image slowly appear on the screen.
If you are able to print it means your computer recognises your printer. Now, printer/scanners are 2 separate 'devices on your puter. Does the scanner show in devices. It may list it as fax, preceeded by the make and model of your printer/scanner. If both are listed when you go to print it will give you both devices. Choose scanner.

Other makes will be essentially the same process. If you tell us your printer make someone who has that make can walk your through it.

Bear with me. It's a new computer and I couldn't print as I used to be able to. But I did just print 1 page off so presumed I was now attached. I'll go back and see if I can print 1 or 2 docs. off.
A scan will be saved on your computer as an image, probably a jpg file.

It will possibly be saved in our My Pictures folder (if on Windows).

On my Epson printer after I have installed the printer software I have to setup the scanner as a separate item before I can start scanning.

Yep, just printed off 5 pages from a document in my computer but when I press 'scan' on printer, then to computer. It says, no computer detected?
Let me think svejk. As I said earlier your pc treats the printer feature and scanner feature as separate devices. Are you able to enter settings, devices, printers/scanners to see if the scanner is enabled?
You will be able to scan the document by opening your printer software and setting the scan to start.
Better post printer/scanner model and your pc operating system svejk. You may need to set the scanner and the pc to handshake. Plus let us know if it is wireless connection. I am off out soon but others will pick up the baton. I will look in again later anyway.
hc is on the case svejk you are guaranteed to scan today.

Just realised, Last time I 'shook' the printer to make it work, the power cable came out the back. Phew! I thought it was something serious.
I'm going to leave it for a bit, before I damage something & come back to it later. Thanks for all the help, so far.
//Last time I 'shook' the printer to make it work// lol svejk I bet that isn't in the instruction manual. Reminds me of a mate who said he had an 'Irish' computer.........and had to punch the information into it.
What is the Make and Model number of the printer?

Sorry folks, I've given up on it before my last bit of sanity goes. Perhaps one of my kids can sort it at the weekend. Thanks again.

I've just been looking again. It seems, as CaC suggested, that in order to scan via wi-fi you have to use 'software' that came with the printer.
As I'm using a notebook now (no disc aperture) I assume it's not possible.
It was very much a 'one-off' so I'm not to bothered. I was hoping someone had a simple, obvious to everyone but me, fix.
Anyway, thanks for all your help again.

^too bovvered. ;)
You should be able to download the required software from the printer manufacturers website.

What is the Make and Model number of the printer and what version of Microsoft Windows are you using on your computer ?

It's a HP 7500a Officejet and I'm using Windows 10, if that's what you meant, pinky.
