HI Abers, can you please help ...

I occasionally listen to the FM radio (obviously through earphones) on my mobile phone (Sony experia) whilst I'm doing a particularly boring process at work .... does listening to the radio on a mobile phone use data? Just wanted to clear this up - if it does, I will switch to using my little "sports radio" rather than listening to stuff via my phone. Thanks, Chox.

It depends on the app you are using. Does is say FM but in reality stream a station that normally broadcasts on FM over the web, or does it genuinely use the airwaves ? A clue would be, does it insist it needs the earphones plugged in, in order to use them as the aerial ? Or read the app description.
No experience of the Sony Experia but if you named the app someone might know.

Or turn off data and WiFi, see it it still works.

The app says "FM radio", but you can't listen to it unless you have earphones plugged in. Have turned off wi-fi and data, and it still works .... does that mean I can listen to the radio through my mobile and not use up data?

thanks, Chox.
yes..you need earphones in as they provide aerial
You are not using any data, it is just the radio.
It is needs an aerial then it isn't streaming music data. So you should be fine.

Rather relieved to know I'm not using any data when I listen to the radio on my phone. Phew. Thaks for all the help folks. Best wishes. Chox.
if you go in to your "data usage" page from the settings screen, you can rack how much data you are using and set up an alert to tell you when you get near your limit
