Perhaps I am seeking the impossible of expecting present or former employees of BT to discuss, openly in the columns of Answerbank, the practice of 'Capping/Throtling' Broadband from Telephone Exchanges.

Thanks Buenchico for your response. The opening sentence of your link is very relevant because it reads //BT has claimed that it will kill off traffic management on its broadband service and stop capping usage limits on all but its entry-level products.//

I would be classified as being in the entry level because I have a twelve-month contract for 10GB per month.

It is the case that 10GB is sufficient for my purposes. because I Do Not play on-line games; use Twitter or Facebook. and refrain from downloading Videos and other such like activities..........A real old timer; that's me.

I am aware that you could be on Mod duties tonight. Consequently, if you have a few spare moments, you may find a previous thread of mine an interesting read to appreciate my problem.

Hans.
When people report a lowering of ADSL speeds in the evenings it's usually because of an ISP's lousy contention ratio. However, since your problem sees such a massive drop in your speed (or even no service whatsoever) the problem is clearly rather more complex than that.

Even so, I'd still suspect that lots of other people coming online (or using online devices, such as Now TV boxes) in the evenings is linked to your problem, with BT's system giving all of the available capacity to them and leaving nothing for you. (If lots of people around you have got BT Vision, for example, the system automatically prioritises their use above those of others).

Apart from 'keep hassling' though, I can't really suggest anything. Sorry!

Thanks again. I shall continue to hassle BT (Bovine Talkers) and hope that folk in the organisation take notice of me.

An interesting development is that for the past three nights I have Not been subjected to any loss of Broadband speed. (12.4 down; 0.96 up)

Cheers.....Hans.
