My Tablet Won't Turn On

My Android tablet was fresh out of the box on Tuesday and I switched it on via one press of the on switch. It worked fine. Yesterday I switched it on and all was fine. I set it aside for an hour. When I tried to switch it on again nothing happened so I assumed it had ran out of power so I plugged it into my desktop's USB port. Pressing the on switch once or holding it down for a few seconds has no effect.
Wondering if the charge is ineffective, I wiggle the connection and often see a graphic of a battery on the tablet's screen. It has been plugged in for over two hours. Any ideas?

USB ports provide very little power so it may take a long time to put enough charge into the battery for it even to switch. I would recommend that you acquire a proper charger.

Is there not a red light when it is charging which turns to green when it's done?
Hold the switch down until it turns on. This can take longer than a few seconds.

Agree with hc4361 press and hold the button for a few sections it should then leap into life.

If you are getting the battery sign up there's nothing wrong except the battery has run down, try charging it up with the charger plugged into the mains, they take quite a while to charge to full power.

Two hours plugged into the mains had no effect either. However, I got two chargers with my Android. I used the one with the 'flat' connection like on my Hudl. I tried the other one - with a 'pin' connection and it sparked to life immediately - and reported me at 0% so obviously the first charger was duff.
