I live over 50 miles from my aged mother. She needs carers and at night she has a panic alarm which call neighbours - but she uses it like a call for tea rather than emergencies. I am considering installing cameras so the situation can be checked before someone has to travel to her in the early hours. She is determined to stay in her home. Can anyone recommend a product? I understand cheap cameras are not reliable.

There is one camera that is consistently recommended by the industry and the tech mags. Not cheap but not ruinously expensive. http://www.y-cam.com/ In particular, this camera: Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

Is broadband available at her home?

Sorry,hc4631, I should have said - I will be ordering broadband this week. I am holding off as I am not sure if standard broadband will be suitable or if superfast will be needed. My mother will not be using it so it will be just for the cameras.

I have never heard of this set up but it does mean you can talk to mum as well as see her (unless you think that would give her the heebie jeebies)

You have my sincere thoughts on this issue sandmaster , been there got the t shirt etc. Just one little important point to make if you do install cameras make sure they are out of mums reach.
