does anyone have a sky+hd box which has odd things happen. first I have been losing series links for ages, but sky are now on to this. then I have recording failed - due to power cut? but power on all the time. then sky box goes into standby with the yellow light showing, and impossible to get out of standby. or goes into something similar to standby but with the green light showing, still nothing coming through onto tv. then, all of a sudden, the box started to record at the time a pre set recording was due to start. box then worked for a while. today, the box again was showing green light, but nothing on the tv. all the connections were ok. went through the rigmarole of soft reset, system upgrade, even in desperation tried a hard reset - nothing. went from green light to yellow and refused to budge. I have sky + on my mobile, so I decided to try to set a recording remotely. unbelievably this worked, recording started - box came on again. I had already contacted sky, complained bitterly about all the problems I had been experiencing and they arranged an engineer visit. they wanted to charge as the box was out of guarantee, but given that I spend almost £1000 a year with sky I refused and told them I would cancel there and then. I have been a customer of sky for a long time with a perfect account record and they agreed to send an engineer and replacement if required for free. now i don't know whether to keep or cancel the engineer visit. something seems to be very strange with this box. or maybe it isn't strange at all and this is how they behave?

iLove,o haywire contacted our local Sky Agent, they brought a new box, job sorted, have you gone into the settings & tried resetting the whole system? If not Try it, also checkonnections.
To add, is the card in properly?

yes everything is connected correctly it seems as though the box has developed a life of its own. its really odd, we have a second HD box which is connected to the sky box so that I can copy stuff from the sky to the other box, some stuff I like to keep indefinitely. the input for sky is hdmi and the hd box is av2. oddly, when the box goes off, system update runs, the the message skyhd please wait appears, the input changes itself to av2. we have had this box connected with the sky box ever since we had it, and the sky engineer set it all up. around the beginning of the year, we lost any signal to the hd box, we used to be able to use it independently to record programmes. something has changed somewhere, and I am not sure if these two boxes are somehow interfering with each other but I cannot figure out how, or why this might be after at least 2 years of working properly.
Have you had a new carpet fitted recently Ilove? the reason I ask, it has been known for carpet fitters to damage the cable if it runs near the carpet Grippers.

no nothing like this. I truly believe that the box is probably failing, gradually. at the moment, it is working, so I have temporarily cancelled the engineer visit. I know he wouldn't replace it if its ok, even though it sometimes isn't ok. I know also the first thing he will do is a hard reset and I will lose everything on it. setting it to record appears to 'wake' it up, so for the moment I will continue with this. I plan to set a recording for every morning first thing and see if that will make sure it wakes up. I thought that somehow the standby mode had changed but it is still set to never go into standby. I have had a quick look at the sky forum, there are a few people whose boxes freeze from time to time, but not the make that mine is it seems the Samsung boxes are a problem. I recognise that this is a hard drive similar to a computer, and goodness knows they hang and freeze from time to time. usually though disconnecting the power and then reconnecting solves the problem, but presumably once the hard drive fails nothing is going to work. I was just interested to know if anyone else had experienced this odd behaviour.
Ok Ilove, If I was in your position I would get the Sky in and replace the box, good Luck any way.
No not strange at all. Go to the Sky website and look on the customer help forum, hundreds of us are having the same problem for the last 4-5 months. Sky insist that it is a problem with certain makes of TV. good luck

I have since joined the sky forum. oh dear. yes, as well as the lost series links, which apparently sky are on to, there are also many people with the freezing problem, and the box refusing to come out of standby. my temporary fix seems to be working currently. I set it to record an early morning programme, every day as it does come to life when a recording is due to start. so far, this has worked. the series links appear to be staying around now, may be the fix has come with one of the many system upgrades I have had to run. my tolerance level is low now and once all my recordings have been watched, the first time it goes wrong again I will be calling them.

should also say, nothing at all wrong with TV's. it is all due to the sky boxes.
