Virgin Media (VM) coaxial cable is only from your nearest Junction Box to your home. The rest of the network is fibre-optic cable. I am a satisfied customer who is paying for 512 Kbits/sec and getting 20 Mbits/sec due to their staged free upgrades of bandwidth and modems. Imho. When VM send you a letter, read it.

What do you mean by honest?
I don't understand the question. We've got BT fibre optic, it's excellent.
I have found virgin the best of a bad bunch. It bought out NTL, who were among the pioneers of domestic fibreoptic in the UK, using their own fibreoptic network. On the other hand BT have relied on traditonal copper wire infrastructure until recently, so connectivity speeds will depend on whether local fibreoptic has all been laid or not.
They're all liars when it comes to clarity of costs.
