Can anyone help. The button on the iPad has become intermittent. In have to keeps pressing it to get it to work. The IPad is out of warranty. I keep hearing that these gadgets are made so they can't easily repaired, meaning a new one. This one cost me over £600! Do you think I might be repairable.

I googled the phrase "ipad home button repair" and got plenty of results, so this is a recognised problem and people are making money on fixing them.

Obviously, ask your local phone shop, or the place you bought it. Repair out of warranty may be a licence to print money, for some, but gentle reminders of their odds of repeat business from you might keep the price reasonable, whereas a dedicated iPad repairer only has this one chance to make money off you. ;)

You could try this from apple talkboard...My home button doesn't/hasn't worked in the past and I got it fixed. Try this. With your iPad in portrait view (long ways up and down), press and hold the home button. While continuing to hold the home button, turn the iPad to landscape view (long ways left to right), then back to portrait view. Make sure your screen rotates when you do this. Now let go of the home button. Hopefully, this is a fix to the "more common" issue in this case and resolves your problem.

Thanks very much. I'll try that!
Did it work?
It might work...I seem to remember a similar problem with the iPhone being placed on a flat surface, pressing the home button and turning the phone so the home button was touching a different part of the connection...
My daughter has an iPhone and the home button doesn't work at all. It is also out of warranty. She now has the home button as part of the screen. Go to Settings, General, Accessibility, then turn on Assistive Touch. You can then drag the home button to where you want.
How interesting Sycamore. I don't have a problem so if I do I'll be back to get a refresher course.

I tried it but of course I get the cirrus thing (the thing that talks to you) when you hold the home button down. So it didn't change from portrait to landscape. However, the button seems to be ok although it was intermittent. Thanks for all your suggestions.
Hope it gets back to "good behaviour mode" now linda.
