Damsel in distress here, so hope someone can assist.
I already have a DVD/Freeview box connected to the TV which works fine.
I have a VCR which I am also trying to connect . The only sockets on the back of the VCR are red/white, and a 21-pin scart socket . I have tried connecting VCR to the DVD box via scart with no success. Then tried connecting VCR direct to TV . No joy there. I've watched so many "how to" videos, mostly American, and one guy even said I had to get on the roof. I don't have cable TV.
Can anyone give "easy to follow" instructions as this is driving me nuts. Thanks

Connect the scart from the VCR to the TV, and on your Sony remote the top left button is for Imputs: turn on the TV and keep clicking this button till it reaches AV1. that's the Scart channel. Turn on the VCR and it should play.
I suspect that you've connected it correctly already but simply not set the correct input on your TV.

Put a tape into the VCR and press 'Play'. (That way we know that there should definitely be an output signal from it). Connect a Scart lead from the VCR to the TV. Then look for the 'Source' button on the TV's remote control. (It's likely to be a rectangle or oval with an arrow pointing into into but it might simply be labelled 'Src' or similar). Pressing that should bring up a menu on your TV's screen, which is navigated by using the Up/Down buttons. Go to 'Scart' (or 'Aux' or 'External' or whatever else your TV might call it) and press 'OK'.
Jomlett's post wasn't there when I started typing but we seem to have agreed anyway. ('AV1' is just another possible label for your Scart input).

Thanks Jomlett for such a quick and clear response. I will return if I encounter problems. ;)

Thanks also to Buenchico. So thankful :)

Hi. I followed your instructions but I have sound but no picture. I have made sure the scarts are well fixed and I used the source button to access AV1 and/or AV2 . Have I missed something ?
Can you try another Scart lead?
Question Author
hi jomlett I don't have another scart lead, but will borrow one tomorrow and try again. Thanks again.
Try swapping the scart around.

Just a thought..... the aerial is, at the moment, going into the DVD/freeview box. Should this be going into the VCR box when I play videos ? . I only have the one aerial.
It could be worth reversing the SCART lead. I can't remember the pin connections off-hand but it's free to try it.

I am now swapping the scart around......
Can I just check how you have everything connected....

freeview to video, video to tv

both by scart?

Question Author
I have swapped the scart round, but still no picture.
Tell us your connections

Sounds like you have a knackered scart lead - either that or a knackered VCR, let's hope it's the cable :)

I have one scart from TV to DVD/freeview box. And, following advice on here, now have another scart from Video recorder to TV. The DVD/freeview box is turned off. Sorry for being dumb...
That should work for you to play back tapes you have created.

Now try using the Freeview-box SCART lead for your VCR connection. You can always put it back on the Freeview-box later.
Ok.

Now which one is giving sound but no picture?
